Name: Geoffrey Ritchey
Subject: "WTC 7 collapse simulation FOIA"
Message:
Dear Mr. Ritchey,
This letter is in response to your February 4,
2008, Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) #09-48
request to the National Institute of Standards and
Technology (NIST) in which you requested a copy of
"Case B input and output from the ANSYS analysis
as described on page 35 ofNCSTAR lA, The Final
Report on the Collapse of World Trade Center
Building 7."
As previously determined, you are in the "all
others" category, for which chargeable services
include search and duplication of responsive
documents excluding the cost of the first 2 hours
of search and the first 100 pages of duplication.
We initially estimate this cost to be $227.98.
This estimate is based on the duplication of the
input and output files for the analysis, which is
approximately four hundred (400) gigabytes of
information. The most effective way of providing
this voluminous amount of files would be to place
them onto a computer hardrive. Upon receipt of
your written assurance to pay the $227.98, we will
begin the duplication of responsive files. Written
assurance may be provided either by letter or
email
to FOIA@nist.gov. Since this is just an estimate,
if the actual cost for the duplication
ofresponsive files is more than this estimate,
then we will notify you of the revised charges.
Likewise, if the actual cost for the duplication
of responsive files is less than the estimate, you
will be required to pay less.
Please be advised that the search charges are
assessed whether or not responsive documents are
located
and whether or not any of these documents are
exempt from disclosure under FOIA.
If we do not receive written assurance from you
within thirty calendar days from the date of this
letter, we \ovill assume you are no longer
interested in receiving the documents requested
and your FOIA request will be closed. Our mailing
address is: NIST FOIA Office, 100 Bureau Drive, MS
171 0, Gaithersburg, MD 20899-1710."
